Grand day out

My London family

Drinks on the lawn

Table setting

Marquee
40 years ago a young English couple wedded in St Georges Cathedral, Southwark. Little did they know 4 children and 5.5 grandchildren later an Aussie would join them at their 40th wedding anniversary party.
Graham and Anne are Jane’s Aunty and Uncle and they kindly invited me along to their party. Jane and her sister Suzie where bridesmaids all those years ago.
We walk to the meet Jane’s family and all pile into mini bus for the journey to Fyfield. Travel through the Blackwell Tunnel, past Olympic site with weird sculpture and into a real English village like in Heartbeat. We are in the country now and the road is narrow and the fields dotted with hedgerow.
At the house we are greeted by Clive and champagne on the lawn.
Meet lots of interesting people and enjoy appetizers with Pimms in the beautiful garden. This really is an English party. With the 100 other guests we move into the marquee and for a seated lunch of hog roast and all the trimmings. The tables are set with tea cups, saucers and plates I am so in another world. The last course is tiny cakes, scones, and profiteroles everyone loves them.
The 20 kids head for the play equipment, they look so cute with brothers in matching outfits and the little girls in pink dresses. How we used to be dressed as kids.  The adults chat and enjoy the garden in the afternoon sunshine.
Tired and tipsy we all pile back into the bus and head for home. What a grand day out.
